  Dr. Edwin Frey (born 1910, died August 30, 2000) was married to Dora Frey-Schwyn, had three children, and lived in Ronco sopra Ascona in southern Switzerland, since the 1950s.
  
  He was a dentist (Dr. med.) and also deeply involved in botany. He had a large garden on the southern slope of Lake Maggiore, in which he planted several botanical rarities. He also had many other less frost-hardy botanical rarities, which he overwintered in a greenhouse.
